Budget Backpacker Welcomes

Home: Welcome

Budget Backpacker" Explained

My name is Kay, better known as Thee Budget Backpacker, and like many people throughout the world, I turned thirty and my life suddenly came to a screeching halt.  "Pre-midlife" crisis set in and I started panicking...the big 3-0 seemed to just sneak up on me and I realized there was soooo much that I have not experienced (yet)! I looked around and reevaluated my life.  I was working a full-time job, barely making ends meet, bored, and yearning to experience something more. I grabbed a sheet of paper and made of bucket list of goals I wanted to achieve by my fortieth birthday (now I feel really old lol).

International travel appears so glamorous in the pages of magazines as well as on different social media platforms.  Pictures of beautiful people in beautiful places....riding elephants, standing beneath exotic waterfalls, posing on white sandy beaches, or even trekking through the desert on a camel right past the Pyramids of Giza!  But, I had soooooooo many questions  that these swirling around in my head...How much does traveling cost? How do I know if I've spent too much? How can I stay within a reasonable budget and still enjoy all of the activities each country has to offer?  Do you have the same questions? Well look no further!

My blogs provide real life advice/tips from countries I've visited firsthand.  After my solo international trip to Thailand and Singapore, I was surely bitten by the travel bug.  Since then, I have traveled to Egypt, Indonesia, and Greece and have loved every minute of it.  I felt that it was my duty to share my passion for international travel with others who live on a budget, like myself, and do not necessarily have to hit the jackpot to travel abroad! I will provide you with information about everything related to international travel from  avoiding over-packing, surviving your first international flight, global entry, cheap excursions, and how to score plane tickets for less than $1,000.00 to most destinations around the world (ka-ching)!
